Sac à dos Program

The Sac à dos program is an academic perseverance project for primary school students that was created in response to growing demand. With a focus on intervention, these educational activities contribute to the academic success of these youth. We run extra-curricular activities two days a week, from 3:00 to 5:30 p.m., from October to June.

General objectives

Increase students’ academic performance and/or reduce academic delays

Improve young people’s social skills

Help young people and their parents develop an appreciation for reading

Give parents tools to help their children succeed in school

Our approach

To meet our goal to contribute to the academic success of our youth, we use a personalized approach that focuses on youth needs as well as a school-family-community approach.


Each student is enrolled in two days of activities per week from 3:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. (ranging from academic support, reading workshops, recreational and educational workshops to family activities.)

Sample activity schedule:

3:00 p.m. Students arrive, transition period
Welcome, snack, and break before the homework period.
3:30 p.m.
Homework and lessons
Each tutor helps 5 youth with their homework and any problems they may have.
4:15 p.m.
Reading workshop
Teaching kids that reading is fun! Individual or group reading-based activity.
4:30 p.m.
Fun educational workshop
Having fun while developing skills. Varied activities: drame, art, sports, projects, etc.
5:20 p.m.
Activity recap
A quick recap of the day.
5:30 p.m.
End of workshop, students go home
This is a great time for us to meet with parents and talk to them about their child.


Our team has two youth workers and one coordinator.

  • The staff member acts as a liaison between teachers, the family and the community.
  • Un An action plan is developed based on an analysis of the young person’s difficulties.

For our participants

The registration costs $25 per child per school year. (A registration form must be filled out and signed by the child and a parent or guardian.)
